Buttons – Function and Variety
Buttons are small fastening elements primarily used in clothing to join pieces of fabric together. In addition to their practical purpose, buttons also serve a decorative role and can enhance the design of a garment.
Types of Buttons-
Sew-Through Buttons
The classic type with 2 or 4 holes through which the button is sewn onto the fabric. -
Shank Buttons
Feature a small loop or shank on the back through which the thread is passed. Often used with thicker fabrics or in more elegant clothing. -
Snap Fasteners (Press Studs)
Consist of two parts that are pressed together and pulled apart. Commonly found in children's clothing, bags, or sportswear. -
Jeans Buttons
Extra sturdy metal buttons attached with a rivet. Typical for denim pants. -
Decorative Buttons
Used solely for decorative purposes and do not function as fasteners. Often seen on uniforms or festive clothing. -
Toggle Buttons
Elongated buttons that are pushed through a loop – typical of duffle coats. -
Magnetic Buttons
Fasten using a magnetic mechanism. Frequently used in bags or modern designs.
